Mailbox is disabled when the "Send / Read" limit is reached - E2K7
When a userexceedes the mailbox limit for Send & Read it is disabled and the user cannot get in to clean out messages, Is there a way around this?

That is the purpose of that setting. That is also why there are warning levels first, which of course mostusers ignore. You should set the receiving limit higher then the sending, so they can still access and receive, but no sent, which forces them to clean. For now, you have to temp. increase the limits to allow them back in.

Did that but as you said when dealing with students they ignor them

I see, I have a large school as a customer too, same issues. We let them suffer for a day or so, then give them 5 MB extra and8 hours to clean. Then set it lower as it was before, they will learn eventually. Be strict or they will rule YOU! Hang in there becaue you really don't want that! Just make sure the sending limit is lower, so they have to clean before they are locked out. Or, the other way around, let them send but not receive... at least they can send an email to you to beg for assistance ;-)
